Backgammon for iPhone & iPad
What Backgammon stores about you, why, who else sees it, and how to take it all back.

Backgammon is made by Vee Shahoian. If you have a question about anything here, or want to exercise any of the rights below, write to admin@onyx-labs.io and we will answer.
All of it lives on our game server. None of it is sold, and none of it is shared with anyone except the services listed further down.
| What | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Account identifier | A random id created when you first open the app. It is how the server recognises you. It is not derived from anything about you. |
| Display name | Shown to the person you are playing. Defaults to “Player”. |
| Username | Optional, and yours to choose. If you set one it appears publicly on the leaderboards. |
| Rating, level, and record | Your rating, experience, career points, wins, losses and matches played — what ranks you and what finds you a fair opponent. |
| Country and continent | Worked out from the network your request arrives on, so the regional leaderboards mean something. You can change or clear it in your profile. |
| Game Center identifier | Stored only if you choose to link Game Center. It is what lets your profile follow you to a new device. |
| Match records | Who played, the score, each player’s rating before and after, and when it finished. |
| Blocks and reports | Players you have blocked, and reports you have filed or that name you. |
| Timestamps | When your account was created and when it was last active. |
Your sign-in token is stored in the iOS Keychain. Your preferences — muting, auto roll, auto bear-off — stay in the app’s own settings on the device.
The game server runs on Cloudflare Workers, with player records in a Cloudflare D1 database. Cloudflare processes your network requests in order to route them and is our hosting provider. Your data may be stored and processed outside your country of residence.
Unless you buy Remove Ads, the app shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Google receives device and advertising identifiers, your IP address, and how you interact with the ads, and uses them to select and measure advertising. Google’s handling is governed by its own privacy policy.
Before any ad is requested, the app asks for consent where consent is required, using Google’s consent tool. iOS also asks whether the app may track you across other companies’ apps and websites. Declining either is fine: you will still see ads, they will simply be less relevant. You can revisit your advertising choices at any time from your profile, and you can change the tracking permission in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Buying Remove Ads stops the ad SDK from being started at all.
Linking Game Center is optional. When you do, Apple gives us a signed confirmation of your Game Center identity; we verify it and store the identifier so your profile can follow you to another device. We do not receive your Apple ID or your email.
Purchases and restores go through Apple’s StoreKit. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether you own the purchase.
Usernames are checked against a filter before they can be claimed. You can report or block another player from the leaderboard or from a match in progress. Blocking works in both directions, so blocked players are never matched together again. Reports are reviewed, and we may remove a username or restrict an account in response.
Chat messages are relayed between the two players as they play and are not stored.
Two things survive on purpose. Finished match records remain, because they are your opponents’ history as much as yours and the ratings they produced are already banked — but your name is gone from them and you appear only as “Deleted player”. Reports naming you are also kept, so that deleting an account cannot be used to wipe a record of abuse.
Your account and its record are kept until you delete them. We do not have a scheduled purge, because a rating and a ranking are only meaningful if they persist.
Backgammon is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to admin@onyx-labs.io and we will remove it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, or have it erased. Deleting your account in the app does the last of these immediately. For anything else, write to admin@onyx-labs.io and we will respond.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who receives it, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app.
